The Houthi-led government in Yemen has issued a stern warning to the United Kingdom following joint airstrikes carried out with the United States on the capital, Sana’a, and surrounding areas, denouncing Britain’s involvement as “complicit aggression.”
“The British enemy should consider the consequences of its participation and be prepared to face the repercussions,” the Yemeni government declared in a statement released Wednesday.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Allah Almighty said: "Indeed, Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might." — True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
The joint U.S.-UK air campaign, launched on April 29, marks the first publicly acknowledged operation under U.S. President Donald Trump’s second term. The UK Royal Air Force deployed Typhoon fighter jets to strike designated targets in southern Sana’a with precision-guided bombs at nightfall.
According to Yemeni sources, the ongoing bombardments by the U.S. and UK have resulted in over 1,300 civilian deaths, dozens more injured, and widespread destruction.
The Yemeni government accused London and Washington of supporting Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, asserting that the strikes aimed to weaken Yemen’s unwavering solidarity with Palestine and suppress its opposition to what it called the “Zionist colonial project.”
The joint strikes come amid daily U.S. aerial bombardments of Yemen since March 15, after the Trump administration escalated military operations initiated by Joe Biden in early 2024. The campaign targets the Houthi-controlled Ansar Allah movement, which has blocked Israeli maritime traffic in the Red Sea and launched missile and drone attacks on Israel in retaliation for renewed hostilities in Gaza.
Yemen’s government labeled the U.S., UK, and Israel as the “axis of evil”, vowing to confront not only these states but also their allies.
“In a display of typical British arrogance, the UK Ministry of Defence proudly announced its involvement in this aggression… The enemy must be ready to bear the consequences,” the statement said.
The Houthis also referenced previous retaliatory actions, including attacks on British vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden last year in response to UK support for Biden’s anti-Houthi campaign.
Despite the billion-dollar campaign, Yemeni officials claim the strikes have had little strategic effect on Houthi forces and have instead deepened local resistance, further entrenching the group’s resolve against what it calls foreign imperialist aggression.
